Get involved – make music!

The Chancel Choir – This is St. Clare’s primary choir with a current roster of nearly 30 choristers.  These adult choristers range in age from late high school students through retirees.  The full choir sings at the 10 a.m. worship service, some Evensong services, for all major festival services, and occasionally for places outside the St. Clare’s community.  Last year the choir went Christmas Caroling, to St. James Episcopal Church in San Francisco, and to Canada.  As with all of the choirs at St. Clare’s, choristers are taught the Royal School of Church Music Voice for Life curriculum.

The Chamber Choir – is a newly-formed adult choir of 8 choristers auditioned and selected by the choirmaster.  This choir performs more challenging anthems and motets on the occasional fifth Sunday of the month, some Evensong services, or occasionally during Communion, and for the 8 a.m. worship service on the third Sunday of the month when we sing old-time favorite hymns at the piano.

The Family Choir – a new worship and choir experience that kicks off this fall.  This choir of part-time commitment and casual atmosphere (no choir vestments) is open to anyone and everyone of any age.  This is an excellent opportunity for parents and children especially to come together to worship and sing.  This choir sings simpler anthems and hymns from sources such as Junior Praise and My Heart Sings Out.

Do you play a musical instrument?  Throughout the year, instrumentalists are also called upon to make music.  Are you a string player or a brass player?  A keyboardist or percussionist?  Do you play flute or woodwind instrument?  If you would like to “praise him with the sound of the trumpet, the psaltery and harp, the stringed instruments and organs, the loud cymbals, and the high sounding cymbals,” please contact the Organist-Choirmaster for opportunities to play.
