Searching for God in the Rubble: A Lent Labyrinth Program:
When disasters occur, such as the recent earthquake in Haiti many people wonder why God allowed this to happen and some even wonder if God caused it to happen. Others are confident that God doesn’t cause earthquakes, but they don’t know what to say to people who blame God or they don’t know how to respond to other people’s questions. When a tragedy strikes home (spiritually, emotionally, financially, or physically) we look for God in the rubble.
Haitians in this tragedy are probably looking for answers about God in the rubble too.
For four Mondays in Lent/Holy Week, we’ll search for God in the rubble of Haiti and our hearts. Join Fr. Ron Culmer as we explore the following questions:
1. Why Doesn’t God prevent disasters? (March 8)
2. Why Haiti? (March 15)
3. Where was God in Christ’s crucifixion? (March 22)
4. What is on the other side of crucifixion…or disasters? (March 29)
Our search will include moments of silence and walking the labyrinth. The class, which begins at 7 PM includes a light meal of soup and bread.
Help feed the hungry! Tuesday, March 9 2:00 — 6:30 p.m.,
St. Clare’s volunteers have been so dedicated, OPEN
HEART KITCHEN has asked that we take on a second
shift feeding the hungry at the Livermore food kitchen!
We are now working both the 2-4 p.m. shift and the 4-
6 p.m. shift on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, so we
need more adults and teens to help with this monthly
ministry at Open Heart Kitchen! You do not have to
work the full schedule. Just come when you can!
In March, Open Heart will move from the Asbury Methodist Church in Livermore to Holy Cross Lutheran at
1020 Mocho Street in Livermore. The exact date will be announced soon. To join our team or find out more,
contact Katherine Smith at athidsmith@comcast.net or call 846-7480.
Children’s Communion Class
Beginning in Lent and finishing in Easter Sunday, Father Ron will lead a Communion class for children interested in learning about the sharing of the bread and wine during the Eucharist. The half-hour class will be held in Father Ron’s office at 9:15 AM for four Sundays: March 7, March 14, March 21, and March 28. The class will culminate with a celebration and presentation on Easter Sunday, April 4.
It is recommended that participants in the class be at least in the first grade. The curriculum for our class is called “This Bread & This Cup” by Mary L. Wile, a deacon in the diocese of Maine. Each participant will have their own work book the cost of which is $10.00 per person.
The five sessions are as follows:
• Sharing a Family Meal
• Storytelling
• These Holy Things
• Praying Together
• Manners and Customs
Please sign up on the kiosk.
Time for Baptisms!
Saturday, April 3, at the Great Vigil of Easter is one of the four days of the year which the church particularly sets aside for baptisms. Have you thought about baptism for your child or yourself? Please contact the church office to learn more!

Good Friday: 12 Noon, 6:30 PM Stations of the Cross, 7:30 PM Service.

Vigil Through the Night
In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus, while praying in the garden of Gethsemane, charges Peter by saying: “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep awake one hour?”
We would keep awake with Jesus before his time of trial and so a vigil will be held here at the church following the Maundy Thursday liturgy and ending at 9 AM the next day with Morning Prayer. The Maundy Thursday liturgy begins on Thursday April 1, at 7:30 PM. Sign ups for the Vigil are located on the Church Kiosk.

St. Clare’s Camp Sunday April 11th, 2010!
Camp is fun! And camp changes lives!
If you have been to Camp you know what a formative experience it can be. Going to camp is a great way to get immersed to nature, to make new friendships and to grow closer to God. Camp can also be a great connection for young people and your parish.
We would like to help you introduce your young people to Saint Dorothy’s Rest summer camps. Katie Evenbeck, Executive Director will be joining us to preach and will help us during and between the services (along with several of her friends) for a camp sing-a-long, create smores, play games and do a camp craft. In fact, there is no age limit to any of the activities! Katie will also host camper and parent Q & A time and provide you with camp registration materials. Please join us on Sunday, April 11, as Camp Sunday will engage children of all ages!
